Let's watch Billy Cobham

First of all, I have decided to take some drum lessons. After playing for about 11 years, I decided the time was ripe to start over and learn about the drums and striking of the drums and the holding of the sticks and stuff. I am talking from the very beginning. I spent 5 minutes learning how to hold a stick. My teacher is this guy named Troy who appears to be very nice and a very good drummer. The really remarkable thing about Troy is that he is a friend of superstar drummer Billy Cobham of Miles Davis fame, of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame, of Billy Cobham Band fame, of Billy Cobham/George Duke Band fame, of Jazz is Dead fame, etc. etc. etc. Anyhoo, Billy Cobham is coming to town on Thursday October 21 to do a drum clinic at H&H music on I-10 and the Beltway. He is also performing at HCC on 1-10 and Beltway on Saturday October 23. I am crossing my fingers hoping I get to meet him.

Back to the drum lesson, we spent about 10 minutes talking about the holding of the sticks, and about 20 minutes talking about Billy Cobham and all the times Troy has see him play--30 years back. Super cool.
